Temporal Mandibular Disease (TMD)
The Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) is one of the most unique joints in the body. It moves through both Protrusion & Retraction as well as Elevation & Depression. The joint capsule slides and translates as the jaw opens. Because it is so complex, it is also fragile and easily compromised. Temporal Mandibular Disease (TMD) is when the synchronization and harmony of the joint is disturbed acutely or chronically. This can lead to a wide variety of symptoms and insults. We do not specialize in the treatment of this disease but we do take the time to test for symptoms and discrepancies. There are simple therapies we can implement to assist in the alleviation of symptoms and possible correction of the disease.
